Lila was written for Ana Milosavljevic’s debut at Carnegie Hall.  The character of the piece has been shaped through conversations and correspondence I had with Ms. Milosavljevic, related to music, beliefs, the spiraling of events in one’s life, and our mutual past – years at Novi Sad Academy of Arts in former Yugoslavia where she was my student.

Lila is a single movement piece, in which the Fibonacci row and the overtone series are used as structural elements to achieve circularity and continual simultaneous existence of (musical) events.

Lila can be seen as spiraling of one musical line that, driven by its inner dynamics, expands and multiplies, gradually resuming (intrinsically transformed) the contours that resemble its primary form.
